Cambodia has successfully dusted itself off from the ravages of war with its colourful capital of Phnom Penh rising from the ashes and sparkling once more. This fascinating city, on the banks of the Mekong River, features exotic markets, cultural jewels and is home to some of the friendliest people on earth.
A visit to the National Museum captures a slice of Cambodia’s ancient Khmer history and art. A different and more recent history suffocates and overwhelms visitors to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former prison of the Khmer Rouge, and The Killing Fields are a short drive from the capital.
The Royal Palace is a striking centrepiece in the centre of Phnom Penh, and is home to the Emerald Buddha and Silver Pagoda. Not far away is the Cambodian Independence Monument that celebrates Cambodia’s sovereignty.
You can satisfy your hunger pains with delicious French-Indochina-inspired meals at various street stalls or classy restaurants. The riverside area has the Art Deco Central Market for a great bargain and there are a variety of bars, especially near Sisowath Quay.
Take time to walk around the French colonial streets with its mix of slow-moving monks and speedy motorbikes. Booking.com has many hotels located in Daun Penh and Chamkar Mon districts, amongst others.
Phnom Penh is a bustling Asian city. So much traffic and vibrancy. The city itself is safe. Culturally there's a lot to see and experience. There's a wide variety of hotels to choose from, from budget options to 5 star luxury. Travelling around the city on a tuk tuk is a great experience. You can usually negotiate for the driver to drive you around for the day for around $15. Four people can comfortably fit in one tuk tuk. 5-6 is a squeeze.
Most restaurants serve Asian food on their menus, but over the years more and more western food restaurants are emerging. There's some great cafe's with really good coffee.
Don't drink the tap water, just stick with bottled water.
The markets are great. The most popular being the Central Market and the Russian Market.
Cambodia's history has incredible tragedy in its recent past. There are museums and tourist destinations highliting this history, which for some people can be incredibly overwhelming and upsetting. I would say that it's something everyone should visit, but they are very confronting and some people that I have travelled with took a few days to process what they saw.
One thing that always amazes me that Cambodian people are so friendly and warm in the light of their tragic past.

Everything was fastastic, but for the museum/ prison where people were maltreated and killed in the 70s. The scenario was very inhuman and pathetic.
I visited the temples, markets and the museums.

Phnom Penh is a great city, lovely temples, royal palace and national museum are all a must see,Lots of great eateries around either more formal restaurants or street food. The city is very easy to get around by tuk-tuk, just download one of the apps like grab to book.
A must see is S-21 prison and the killing fields genocide memorial on the outskirts, very sombre and shocking places to visit, but everyone should know want went on under Pol Pot.

If you are visiting Cambodia you can definitely skip Phnom Penh. As with many international flights we did not have great connections to get to Koh Rong Samleom or Siem Reap. Had a long layover here. Not much to see unless you are interested in visiting the Genocide Museum.

The Mekong river was a cool spot.
The Mekong river was a cool spot.
The AEON malls were good with plenty of choices to have a meal.
Very easy and cheap to get around in the local Tuktuks.
Avoid walking on the streets because there is no space on the footpaths.
The staff is so friendly. The staff were very helpful and always willing to help. Rooms are clean. One of the best hotels with reasonable prices you can find in Phnom Penh. This hotel was outstanding, especially the rooftop pool and gym. You can do your gym workout while overlooking the city skyline.
The pool was really nice. The breakfast was good, and I was pretty amazed with the freshly prepared soup noodles.
Short walk out to the main road, and plenty of tuk tuks around.
I will come back, for sure.
This was great value for money. It was the most "luxurious" place I stayed in 3 weeks in Cambodia.
The bed was super comfortable. It was the only "cable TV" that actually worked, showing an English speaking channel or 2! The bathroom was very clean (as was the whole room) and the best bathroom of all the places I stayed.
It was in a good location, surrounded by many great restaurants and I walked to riverside from here in 30 minutes.
Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Spent 1 night for a staycation at the Sun and Moon riverside, and was highly delighted by the hotel. All the staff were super smiley and efficient, the room was well sized and with nice amenities, the bed was comfy, we did not hear the outside noise, and for Phnom Penh, that is Thing! We had a room on the Bassac side, and the view was a must! The hotel is all new and everything was flawless, Plus the swimming pool is stunning , highly recommend this hotel.
We are at the end of our month-long trip around Cambodia and this is still hands down the best spot we have stayed in. The rooms are super comfortable and Panha is a national treasure - just above and beyond helpful and kind. We were plied with fruit, snacks and excellent coffee, lots of good advice, and help with things like booking bus tickets. We are already looking forward to staying here again on our way out of Phnom Penh! Thanks for everything!
- Amazing breakfast!
- Stuff here is outstanding, helpful in anything and smiling all the time even when welcoming guests for breakfast 6 AM something :)
- Jacuzzi with a city view upstairs
- Security (I wasn't really feeling safe in Phnom Penh traveling solo, but the hotel is being watched/secured/security asking drivers where are they taking the guest really helped a lot)
- Great location near the river embankment
It was our second stay in Phnom Penh, the apartament is conveniently located in the city centre, close to the war museum and many cafeterias and restaurants. When you type the name of hotel on the map it is easy to find. The room was big and clean with comfortable bed. We could make a laundry BUT you have to have your own detergent. There is also a modestly equiped kitchen.
I've been traveling to Cambodia since 2095, stayed in various hotels and guesthouse. Duong Chan hotel surpasses all the others. For the past five years I mage Cambodia my residence and often travel from the Provinces to stay in the City for a change of pace. From this day forward, Duong Chan hotel will be my first choice to stay.
Great place to stay in while you are visiting Phon Penh. The hotel and all amenities in it are fantastic. The staff is also very kind , smiled and helpful. You really have the impression you are staying in a boutique place which actually this hotel is. They also served a la carte breakfast, which was super delicious.
The hotel now newly renovated is elegant and modern. The infinity pool on the terrace comes with a great view. The room was cozy and comfortable with excellent amenities. The buffet breakfast spread was decent for vegetarians. Good place to stay in Phnom Penh central district just a few steps away from the riverside.
Good position in front of the National Museum and the Royal Palace. Close to downtown and many restaurants and bars. The rooftop bar of the hotel was very nice in the evening. The breakfast on the 15th floor had quite the view on the city, and the Cambodian carved wood furniture added some charme.
Location wise amazing. Really close to Royal Palace and Riverside Quay. All arrangements can be done from the hotel. Great ambience, great pool and good food. Book without any doubt. Booking from here for the Siem Reap sister property of Hello Cambodia may give 20% discount.
We have stayed at multiple hotels during or 1 month travels through Vietnam and Cambodia. However, each hotel was missing something. Being vibe at pool, location, no bar.
This hotel had it all! Would definitely stay again
Staff amazing.
Food very good, almost like in 5 star hotel.
Amazing SOFT mattress - best in all Cambodia. Because usually mattress in Cambodia very hard (we lived in 3 more hotels and everywhere mattress is super hard)
Depressing
A shabby, dark & dingy place. Only good things - location , WiFi works ok
Most hotels on the riverside are similarly nasty. Cambodia is nice but downtown PP is now a dump. Avoid
Central of Phnom Penh City, 2 minutes away from Central Market and Soriya Supermarket, Room Really Clean and Comfortable, Friendly Staff and Helpful, Will go to stay again in our Next Holiday
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Very peaceful stay, gorgeous bedroom and delicious breakfast. People were very kind and helpful. Perfect place to stay in Ho Chi Minh City
We went on a trip to Cambodia, Vietnam and Bali and this was by far the best hotel. The staff was very cordial, the breakfast buffet was excellent and so was the restaurant.
